asked by: a guest Will this fit a trek mountain track 830?
A.
anwered by: canteau It depends on the year. If the model you have has the cable stops or currently has cantilever brakes, these should work. Newer models would use a v-brake.

asked by: a guest Will this fit a Gary Fisher Goo Koo E Koo, I believe from the late eighties (possibly early 90's)? The rear brake mounts are at the bottom of the frame near the chain stay (compresses bottom of rear wheel).
A.
anwered by: canteau You probably have a bike with an old "U-brake" some times you can get a BMX one to work depending on how much clearance you have. If you are local I would suggest bringing the bike in for us to help you get the proper brake.

asked by: a guest i need the plastic cover over the spring
A.
anwered by: canteau Shimano no longer stocks small parts for the Altus cantilever brakes aside from the link wire. You will have to replace the entire brake due to a damaged spring cover/carrier.

Looks like a good, solid part.
The buyer should be familiar with what's in the package, though. The FAQ's on the product listing say it will "fit any bike with cantilever brake mounts," but that's not completely true. It might "fit," but the connection between this part and the yoke is only one, specific kind. Even if you have cantilever brakes, if your connection is another type, it won't work.
People that are very familiar with bikes might know this, but a regular dad trying to fix his son's bike has to learn the hard way. I relied on the "will fit any bike with cantilever brake mounts" answer to make this purchase. But now I'm buying a cable from Amazon so that I can use it on the bike.
Ordered these to replace some retro shimano atlas cantilever brakes that the housing had cracked on. I have installed these several times and after a quick learning curve they have become a breeze to install. Would recommend watching park tools instructional video about cantilever brakes on YouTube prior to installing these
