Paul Word Single Speed Hub

This is the first purpose built single speed mountain bike hub ever built.

This hub is why most single speed mountain bikes have a 52mm chain line-we spread the flanges out as far as possible to make a super strong wheel, and stuck a bmx freewheel in the space between the flange and the frame.
After nearly 10 years of production the Word has received it's first ever makeover. Basically we trimmed everything down to the minimum. Slightly smaller axle (15mm vs. 17mm), trimmed down shell and the corresponding slightly smaller and lighter bearings. We have also gone to our pinch style bearing adjustment ring and beefed up the end caps.

The WORD comes with special machined mount bolts (we call them "Fancy Bolts"), and washers in stainless and brass, with deeply knurled contact faces. As with all our hubs the axles can be quick release or bolt on. Quick release axles are really nice on eccentric style frames with vertical dropouts. On frames with horizontal dropouts it''s best to stick with bolts.
