Surly Single Speed Spacer Kit comes with a selection of anodized aluminum spacers, so you can get a perfect chainline to complement your road, track or mountain crankset. Our large-diameter, stainless steel Cassette Lockring holds everything together and perfectly matches the outside diameter of the spacers. Plus, it matches the machined shoulder of our single-speed cassette cogs (not included). The lockring is machined to utilize a common Shimano cassette lockring tool for installation and removal. This isn’t just a mix of off-the-shelf parts; we went the extra distance to give you a kit that will provide maximum functionality, durability and aesthetic value.
- Set of five spacers for converting to singlespeed on Shimano freehub bodies
- Includes stainless steel lockring

gst...@co...x.net I used my first single speed conversion about three years ago when I got tired of cleaning the triple chainring and 9-speed cluster on my road bike I've been using for commuting in the flatlands of Hampton Roads, VA. I had a different spacer set that used several smaller spacers of 2.5mm or thinner.
I just built a MTB I'm using for double duty as my single speed commuter, and as my hardtail SS on frequent Colorado trips.
The Surly spacers and lock ring are perfect for my setup. I've got two sets of rims, a 700c pair for the VA commuting and a 26" pair for Colorado MTB. The Surly has an excellent mix of very large to very small spacers that allow me to use the minimum number of spacers to get a perfect chain line between chainring and cog. I went with Surly cogs this time as well. I'm only 300 miles into the new drive train, but I'm amazed at how little wear I'm seeing on the teeth. I push a 44x13 gear on the 700c's and put a pretty good torque on them during starts at intersections. The Surly spacers and cog are working great. My chainline is straight and the chainring (aluminum = the weak link) has no wear yet, either.
For the MTB rims, I'm using a double/double set up so I can have a decent road/trail range (36x13/32x17) with the same chain. So far, so good.

taylorburchGreat spacer kit. Very high-quality. The accompanying instructions are very thorough and help make finding the perfect chain-line a snap on the first try. Lot's of spacers of various widths allow for accurate fine tuning.

dfrossarWhile single-speed conversions can be done with standard cog spacers, this kit gives you a deeply researched and well-thought-out spacers of varied width. As a result, getting a perfect chain line is far easier.
Eyeball the chain line, or get it exactly, mathematically right. The included documentation details the latter in exhaustive detail.
The quality of the kit is quite excellent as well.

EastcoasterInfinite adj. Worth the little bit of extra dough for this to easily get the proper chainline compared to some of the other cheaper, "generic" kits out there.
