For eight speeds you really don't need indexing. I run friction shifting on a ten speed cassette and once you get used to it it's not really an issue to hit your gears. If you have your heart set on indexing, by all means search out the right shifters, but especially with as few gears as eight, friction is fine

The pull ratio is the same for 7 and 8 speed drivetrains, so the derailleur should work.
It will not index for 7 speed correctly if that is what you are looking to do. You will be able to use it in the friction mode if needed.

Any triple front derailleur will work for this, it won't matter if it's mountain or road. Just make sure to get the correct clamp size and type for your bike.

Installed on a mid-90's recumbent. Replaced original grip shifters with these bar end shifters. Works great with the 7 speed rear cluster and Shimano Deore LX derailler. Works better and looks better.
