dfrossarThe PowerGrip high-performance pedal-and-strap kit doesn't give you the absolute best platform pedal ever (this one is reasonably light and of reasonably good quality, though). It doesn't give you the most iron-clad connection to your pedal, either (though it's pretty good).
What it does give you is an excellent combination of a good pedal, with a versatile binding that works for just about any kind of shoe. This works especially well for commuters (who might not want to carry a second pair of shoes to the office).
I also like these pedals on my 29er. I feel more attached to the pedal than I would with a plain platform pedal with no attachment; but because I can get out of PowerGrips more quickly than clipless pedals, I crash less often.
Some complain that entering and exiting the pedal is hard. To them I say: (1) make sure your shoe isn't catching on the strap; some shoes are better than others, and (2) make sure you've adjusted the opening to the correct size -- loose when you insert your shoe, but tight when you twist it parallel with the bike. Anyway, the process seems very natural. Of course, I've got a few thousand miles on these things so I may have learned something along the way.

A GuestThese pedals are great. I used clipless for about four years and rode them hard for two years with long rides. Got tired of not being able to unclip easily and I have a wide foot and clipless shoes don't come wide. These Power Grips feel like clipless but I'm able to use any shoe I want and get a fast and powerful ride. I'm going to get a set for my wife's bike. We both have Specialized road bikes and the Power Grips are perfect for our bikes.

A GuestI have difficulty with clipless pedals due to bilateral knee replacements and these pedals work great for me. I have them on two different bikes. A commuter and road bike. I've read reviews that they are difficult to get your foot in and out or poor construction, etc. I think they are well made and for me, and exceptional option. The high performance pedal is worth the extra money I think.

A GuestThis is my second set of Power Grips. Absolutely perfect for my commuter/knock around town bike. Easy in/easy out and works with whatever shoes I'm wearing. Also, just the ticket for my old hardtail mountain bike. I'm not super aggressive, but I want my feet to feel secure on the pedals. If you don't want to be clipped-in, this is the way to go. That said, I use eggbeaters on my road bike.

A GuestLove these! Got them for a sprint off road triathlon so I won't have to change shoes. They are super easy to use and really do work! Almost as effective as bike shoes, esp for shorter distance on mtn bike, and easier to get out of in a hurry than clip in pedals. Would also be great for new rider transitioning to clip in pedals.

A GuestI've been using Power Grips on various pedals for many years instead of rigid metal or plastic toe clips, and instead of clipless pedals.
Power Grips work with most any street or athletic shoes, so there's no need to keep a spare pair of "normal" shoes at work for commuting. "Clipping" in and out is intuitive and easy -- when you naturally move to put your foot down, that same motion releases you from the pedal. If you can't get your foot in, you can step on the strap itself -- it's flexible and unbreakable.
No doubt clipless pedals make a more secure attachment -- but not much more secure.
This particular combination of a nice, basic, and quite light platform pedal with pre-installed Power Grips is the easiest way to try out the system. (The "Sport" model is equally easy, cheaper, and 150 grams heavier.)
All in all, this is an excellent compromise between weight, price, versatility, and convenience.

don_beriniI was looking for a pedal that allowed the benefits of push/pull action with regular tennis shoes. When I came across these I was very excited to try them out. I am a size 11 1/2, sometimes wear a 12 due to having a wide foot and the strap that comes with them was at it's limit for my foot. That aside I jammed my foot into the straps and took off for the Gym. About 2 miles into my ride I made a sharp right hand turn, cased the pedal on the ground and Ping off came the strap. If you look at the image you will see that the bracket for the strap is at the very spot that cases out so if you case these pedals once odds are you will be trying to straighten the bracket back out in the vice. Definitely a bummer. I do agree though if you are smart enough to keep your low side pedal high then these should work great just don't expect an ounce of forgiveness if you don't.
