XG-1090 X-Dome Road Cassette (Red Level)

SRAM set the bar for road shifting performance when they introduced the RED group a few years back. This new drivetrain group quickly made it's way on to not only Pro-Tour bikes but also on the bikes of riders who desire the highest performance possible.

The new XG-1090 is the 3rd generation cassette from SRAM that uses their "Dome" technology, meaning that the middle 8 cogs are machined from a solid piece of billet tool grade steel. The inner and outer most cogs are made of machined aluminum. The steel cogs are lighter and stiffer than traditional titanium cogs on an aluminum spider and also have a longer service life.

The new cassette shares a more open design borrowed for the SRAM XX mountain cassette which not only helps shed dirt during ''cross or one of the gravel road races that seem to be popping up this season but also reduces a bit of weight. The new XG-1090 is 20g lighter than the previous version coming in at around 135g for the 11-23t compared to 155g for the OG-1090.

One downside to the dome arcitecture is that the center of the cassette is hollow which amplifies any chain noise during the ride. One of SRAM''s missions during the re-design of the RED group was to make it the most quiet drivetrain group on the market. The new cassette incorporates elastomers between each cog called StealthRings to eliminate vibration and chain noise without added weight, making the XG-1090 not only one of the lightest cassettes on the market but also the quietest.
