This is a nice, even spacing. It seems that Freewheels are mostly 7-speed, so it's nice to see a 9-speed unit.
If you are upgrading, make sure you have the room on your bike. You'll want 135mm rear ideally.
Also, if your wheel is centered or left of center now, you'll need to adjust that. This will push your wheel to the left, so expect to redish at the spokes, and swap out your axle spacers.
If you're still stuck with a 7-speed shifter, you could still use this to a point. You can adjust your rear derailleur to pick the contiguous set of 7 speeds, such as 15-34, or 11-24, or 13-28. Also, if you are adventurous, you could leave it slightly misadjusted, so that it autoshifts under load to pick up an extra gear, though that would just be annoying.
Instead, the best is to pick up a 9-speed shifter. Alvio SL-440 are decent and not too expensive. If you *MUST* have twist/grip shifters, then the SRAM MRX Pro/Centera comes in a 9-speed version. It's Shimano 2:1 pull compatible, but is hard to find.
