There is no low spot on a single speed ring for the chain to shift off of. You would be able to shift from the big ring into the inner ring, but you would have a hard time getting from the inner ring back onto the big ring.

The Shimano XT M770 cranks do have a 104mm BCD so the bolt holes will line up, however, Shimano and FSA have slightly different crank arm shapes so there may be a need to modify the chainring tabs for a perfect fit slightly.
