The Shimano shifter head should fit all Shimano, SRAM, Sun Race, newer Suntour and Microshift shifters.

Yes this cable will be almost certainly longer than what you need. You will want to trim the excess off with a pair of bypass cable cutters designed to work with stranded cables.
