Manitou designed the
Mastodon from the ground up to be a fat bike suspension fork that works when most people ride their fat bikes, in the cold. The
Mastodon Fat Bike Suspension Fork will work in temps as low as 0 degrees without a slow down in performance which is 30plus degrees colder that some of the other
fat bike suspension forks on the market can do.
Manitou builds the
Mastodon Suspension Fork in 2 sizes to provide a more dialed fit for today's fat bikes. The Standard Mastodon Suspension Fork
is capable of running 26x4.0" or 27.5x3.8" tires. If you need or want to run larger tires, an
extended version of the
Mastodon will clear
26x5.15" or 27.5x4.5" tires, more than just about any other fork on the market. If you are unsure of which version will fit your tires, a tire clearance chart is available
here.
Stiffness can become an issue with fat bike suspension forks, so to stiffen things up the
Mastodon is designed to be a trail fork using a larger 34mm chassis.
Mastodon Pro forks have the ultra-reliable Dorado air spring from their freeride and DH forks along with 7050 alloy legs and MC2 compression dampening.
Manitou ships the
Mastodon in two travel versions 100mm and 120mm. The 100mm
Mastodon can be converted to 80mm of travel if you need less travel. The 120mm
Mastodon can be converted to 140mm should you need slightly more travel. Instructions on how to change the travel can be found
here.
