How does it come apart to replace the cable?

There should be a cable cap on the body that you can remove to push the cable out.

1- Will these work with an old Shimano 6 speed friction shifting front and rear Derailuer 2- Will this create index shifting on the friction shifting derailleurs? The indexing can be created by the shifters themself? 3- Can I set the front shifter up to work on a double front chainring instead of a triple chain ring? Thank you so much.

The MicroShift twist shifters are compatible with Shimano/Shimano compatible Mountain 6-speed front and rear derailleurs.
Indexed shifting action is handled by the shifter, however, if the bike originally had friction shifting, there is a chance that the front chainrings aren't ramped or pinned which help the chain transfer from one chainring to the next.
