My 1x9 geared bike came with a small plastic piece on the seat tube that I guess (?) was a chain guide, but it didn't look close enough to the chain to do anything. The jump stop is very adjustable so you can put the metal guide right up next to the chain and thus inspires a lot of confidence in the product. I haven't had any chain jumps, so it seems to work. For the price you can't beat it.

Jump Stop does just what it says and prevents jumping when down shifting to the granny gear. Put on a small chain ring for a mountain tour and added the Jump Stop. Worked perfectly every time.

It just works, and at a reasonable price.
My recumbent trike came with 30-39-52 triple chainring 10 speed but with 26" rear tire the gearing was a bit high for me. You can put a 24 tooth granny gear on these road triples but when shifting down to the granny the chain will usually come off on the inside. The Jump stop works every time to stop the chain from falling off and it works flawlessly.

This is the second N-Gear I've purchased. Perfection in its simplicity. Running 1x9 and have only dropped the chain once in 4 months and that was in a pretty good wipe out! Takes all of 5 minutes to install.
