KwelleniusI put these tires on a cyclocross bike for winter riding (central Maine). Here, even roads that get plowed develop icy ruts, so maximum studs were a must. I chose these over the Schwalbe Marathon Winter for the deeper tread blocks and extra width (40 vs. 35). I also got some Bontrager Thorn Resistant tubes. Between the tire and the heavy tubes, the bike gets pretty hefty, but nobody wants to fix a flat when it's 10 degrees outside.
The only hitch was initial trouble keeping the bead in the rim. Double and triple check everything is seated well, both before and after inflating. And if you hear any thumping as your ride, stop immediately. Once fixed, this issue has not come up again.
Performance is great. Solid traction under a mix of ugly conditions. But don't think it'll be like riding on pavement -- everything is squirrely in the winter, and the riding is a lot slower. No tire is a license to suspend good judgment.

A GuestThis tire was recommended by other riders for commuting on bike trails, which are not maintained as well as roads during the winter. This is my first season, but great to be able to ride over snow and ice with confidence. GREAT PRICE from Tree Fort Bikes. These cost more anywhere else I looked.

nchanlinI put these tires on at the first sign of snow. They are great for packed snow and icy roads. Mainly, I use these on my commuter bike but have gone on several longer, leisure rides as well. There are studs a bit on the side of the tire as well so they grip when cornering and turning on the icy pavement. So far, no studs have been lost. The Nokian Hakkapelitta tires were recommended to me by another winter biking enthusiast and I've been very happy with these studded tires. My fears of sliding out on ice have been put to rest.

A GuestI have these installed on my singlespeed MTB for winter commuting. They work reasonably well on ice and light snow. Once the snow gets north of 2" deep, they get pretty squirmy... This is due to the 40c size. On the SS, it is very easy to overpower the rear traction, breaking traction. These work great on ice and icy pavement. For deeper snow, the Gazza Extreme's would work better...

lennon1218Great tires, and even better service. Tree Fort may not be the biggest online cyclery, but they may be the best. Great price and rapid shipping, plus a good website.
