This shim is to adapt a handle bar to a larger stem. To adapt a smaller steerer tube to work with a 1-1/8" stem you will want to use this shim as it will provide a more even surface area for the stem.

Does as intended it allows be to use a 31.8 stem with my 25.4 bars at a miniscule amount of money.
Not sure how it will look after a few years on the bike, because it appears to be some alloy not aluminum, so I hope it don't rust. I may end up painting it black.
