SRAM set the bar for road shifting performance when they introduced the RED group a few years back. This new drivetrain group quickly made it's way on to not only Pro-Tour bikes but also on the bikes of riders who desire the highest performance possible.
For the new rear derailleur SRAM went back to the drawing board to design a new derailleur that not only shifted fast and was lightweight but also super quiet because excess chain noise isn''t something you''ll notice until it''s gone!
The new RED rear derailleur still uses the 1:1 Exact Actuation that has made SRAM famous, so it is backwards compatible with all previous 10-speed SRAM Road and Mountain groups.
To reduce weight the RED rear derailleur uses titanium hardware throughout the derailleur body and the anchor bolt has been made hollow to further shave weight from where it doesn''t belong.
The long B-knuckle now gives the RED rear derailleur a 28t capacity for those that need the help on steeper roads, previous RED rear derailleurs were limited to 26t.
To reduce speed robbing friction the RED rear derailleur uses new AeroGlide pulleys. The AeroGlide pulleys have an optimized tooth profile to work best with SRAM''s PC-1091R chain although other 10-speed chains will work just fine. These pulleys are the key to this derailleurs quietness. To insure that they roll smooth SRAM uses Black-Box Ceramic Bearings in both the upper and lower pulleys.
- Exact Actuation shifting provides fast, accurate shifts
- More clearance with 28t cassettes thanks to longer B-knuckle
- Silent shifting with optimized AeroGlide pulleys
- Ceramic pulley bearings
- New spring-fixed barrel adjuster
- New chain pulley cage adds precise chain management
- Titanium hardware keeps things light
