A GuestAfter hearing positive things about Shimano's "Ultegra-level" dynamo hubs, I went for this 32 hole 3N80 model that's a little lighter (maybe better insides?) than the 3N7x models. I built it up with a Velocity Aeroheat rim and now have a decent generator wheel for less than the cost of a SON hub.
The power output is very good, and I don't notice the drag with it on my touring bike. My lights don't have a switch, so it's always powering them. I could disconnect the dynamo's wire plug near the axle, but again, I don't notice the drag.
After using the hub for 300 mi or so, my only complaint is the vibration/buzz that can sometimes occur when riding at certain speeds. From what I understand, this resonating effect happens with all dynamo hubs. It only happens occasionally and is certainly not a big deal.
Also, it would be nice if the 36h model was more available in the US. I've only seen them for sale from Europe. Using the 32h with a strong 559mm rim, I have no doubts that it will hold up fine for me.
I'm considering buying more of these for 650b and 700c wheels.

geekguyandyI bought this hub a year ago when I was sick of charging battery lights every night - it was the best decision. Paired with a B&M Cyo light, it was a good value. 2,500 miles later and I'm still happy. I had a bearing shear off, but I was able to easily replace it. Definitely get the hub adjusted when you get it, because it came with a slight amount of extra drag. I adjusted the nuts, and now the drag is not noticeable.
