anonymousIt's been a while since I put distance on a derailleur hub, and I turned to this hub when my failed Alfine 11 hub died after two hard years. For the work invested in building a wheel, and the risk of bending a rim during assembly, I decided to treat myself to a light bicycle carbon rim. I was less excited about saving weight at center of rotation, and wanted to spend as little as possible on a hub, and also wanted to avoid those obnoxious CNC machined boutiqey noise maker hubs. I needed a quality hub to last and serve the greater investment I chose this hub because I wanted a tried and true, reliable and serviceable hub. I was really thrilled by the flange design, which enables the same length spoke for both sides, bonus if you buy the matching front hub, one spoke length for the entire bike! I'm coming up on a year, with several thousand all weather miles, and have not felt obligated to open it. Annual preventative bearing service is just around the corner, and I'm hoping the open (vs cartridge) ball bearings can last a long time if you keep up on maintenance. The only downside is the freehub body, which has some lateral play when you attach the cassette and wonder if you tightened the lock ring enough. The cassette hub play was bothersome during assembly, but has not been noticed in use. Cassette bodies wear too, and I can upgrade this part later on.
