Correct!, well sort of. Shimano offers the XT cassette in a 12-36t but in 10spd. It is unclear if Shimano going to develope any more 9spd parts at this point. The new m980 series XTR has no 9spd offerings.

Great price and an even greater value for this old-geezeer/wheezer mt. biker. I took the 12 off and put the 11 (off my 11-34) on the cluster to add a little high-end slower pedaling. I've already used the 11-36 on the bike ('06 Specialized Stumpy Pro) and like the lower end. It's a big winner helping me get my "spring legs" here in St. George, UT (down for a week, and on over to Gooseberry Mesa in Hurricane). I was pleased that the unit went onto my 26"er, and since it's only 2 more cogs than the 11-34 I took off, no problems with the rear deraileur working.
