The required tool for pulling off XTR cranks does all it needs to and nothing more.
This was an item purchased begrudgingly. I did not want to buy it, and the bike was on the stand for a week waiting for it to show up.
That being said, it is a great tool and does it's job very well. I will probably only use it a handful of times, and that bums me out, but you gotta have it!
My advice would be to just have it on hand when you buy the cranks.

I hate that this is required at all. Once you attain a premium product you shouldn't be forced to buy a special tool to service it when other cranksets don't require such a tool. That being said, this little tool, which cost its weight in gold compared to other tools its size with a single function, performed flawlessly. Makes it all simple.
