Put this on an older 70s bike with a newer Shimano derrailuer that came off a 2000s mountain bike. Running 1x9 and loving this for my townie. I was having trouble getting it dialed with an index shifter and this thing has made for relaxed and carefree setup and maintenance. If you're looking for a budget friction shifter this one has been working well for me thus far (several weeks of daily use)
