The Masterpiece seatpost is machined from a solid block of aluminum, so aside for looking gorgeous, the strength-to-weight ratio is unmatched by any other seatpost on the market. The clamp, head and upper tube are a singular unit, not pieces bonded or pressed in; this upper post can withstand 325 pounds of torque. The long seat rail adds to the upper strength, with 1.614 inches of grip length keeping firm hold on the saddle. The Masterpiece maintains such strength in concert with light weight: Masterpiece seat posts weigh 40 grams less than an Elite post of the same size, which is achieved by all-over machining and the oval design of the inner post diameter. This is Thomson's ultimate seat post.
Sizing note: The 27.2mm diameter post is available in 240mm and 330mm length options. The 30.9mm and 31.6mm diameter posts are only available in a 350mm length.

I was back and forth between a cobalt 11, an Easton EC90, and this seatpost. Tree Fort had a good deal on a Masterpiece, so it helped make my decision easier. Having Easton posts on the other bikes in the household, I was surprised by how much nicer the quality was on this Thomson -- the machining is amazing. I didn't believe a weight could be lighter than a carbon post but the Thomson is. With Titanium bolts replacing the stock bolts, it came in at 177 grams for a 31.6x350. On my fiance's bike, the 27.2x 300 Easton Haven carbon weighs 217 grams for comparision.
Summed up: Probably the best post money can buy for less than lots of other posts on the market.
Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

I had a Crank Bros Carbon seatpost for 11 yrs, clamp not so good, Thompson Clamp is GREAT, as light weight as the Crank Bros post, I don't notice the Aluminum post being stiffer or anything else, Thompson post is GREAT..
I have long limbs and a relatively short torso. I had a nicely dialed-in upright, and set out to duplicate the reach on the top-hood position on a road bike I was building. The machining on this post is exceptional, and it is incredibly light. At this price, it would not walk away.
Summed up: Thomson did what they set out to do - the best.

I had a Crank Bros Carbon seatpost for over 10 yrs, the clamps didn't work with 7x9 carbon saddle, the seat clamp on Thompson is awesome, the post is a beauty, its not any stiffer then the Crank Bros, Carbon, I put on a $40 carbon saddle, that was mean after 20 miles, I got a Fizik Antares now I'm smiling, great seat post. light, great looking, no stiffer then the 10 yr old carbon CB's seatpost
